Privacy Policy

AskYves is a personal project by Tanay Mehrish. We try to handle your data with the same care you’d expect of a small, transparent operation. This page explains what we collect, why, where it lives, and how to delete it.

What you give us

  • One full-body photo, uploaded once during onboarding to derive body proportions (shoulder-to-hip ratio, torso-to-leg ratio, build classification).
  • Self-reported measurements: height, weight, and optionally waist size.
  • Product page content — description, size chart, and (where present) the “model wears size X” reference — scraped from the page only when you click Ask Yves.
  • Conversation messages if you use the chat follow-up feature, sent to the server with each message.

What we send to third parties

We use a few external services to make this work:

  • Google Gemini — analyzes your one-time onboarding photo to derive proportion ratios. Only the photo for that single call; never re-sent on subsequent recommendations.
  • OpenAI (gpt-5-mini) — generates the size recommendation, fit analysis, styling advice, and chat replies, given your derived proportions and the scraped product data.
  • Google Gemini (again) — invoked as a fallback for the page scraper if heuristic extraction fails. Receives a cleaned text+table payload from the product page.
  • ElevenLabs — converts persona text replies to audio when you click Listen. Receives the text being spoken and a voice ID.

We do not pay for, request, or have access to any of these providers’ training-data programs. Your data is sent to them only for the immediate API response.

What we don’t send on every call

Your raw onboarding photo is processed once and discarded server-side. After that, only the derived proportion data (a small set of numeric ratios and a build label) is sent on each recommendation request. The photo never accompanies a product recommendation.

Where your data lives

  • Your browser: your profile (height, weight, waist, derived ratios, selected persona) and any chat history are stored in Chrome’s extension storage. They never leave your browser unless you click Ask Yves on a page or send a chat message.
  • Our backend (FastAPI hosted on Render): receives the inputs needed for a single recommendation or chat call. It does not persist your profile, your photo, or your chats. Logs for debugging are minimal and rotated.

What we don’t do

  • We don’t sell or share your data with anyone.
  • We don’t use your photo or measurements to train models.
  • We don’t track you across sites.
  • We don’t serve ads.

Deleting your data

Open the extension popup and click Delete profile. This removes your profile, derived data, and any cached recommendations and chat history from your browser. There is nothing to delete on our backend because nothing persists there.

Children

AskYves isn’t directed at children under 16. Don’t use it if you’re under 16.

Changes

If this policy changes meaningfully, the date at the top will be updated and a notice will appear on the extension popup. Material changes will be communicated before they take effect for existing users.
